Hi every one..
I have just purchased a Perodua Viva 1.0 Manual..like most of you guys there i was first so happy to receive my new car and enjoyed driving it so much..but everything's ruined on the 3rd day..3 days..just 3 days, with mileage of less than 250km and i already had a serious problem with my viva gearbox..
The gearbox gave a very loud screeching/humming sound suddenly when i was driving back home from Nilai to Cheras after work on the 3rd day..since then, the sound appeared in every trip i drove. I first called the salesman and i was so happy when he told me that it could be the disc brake cover plate problem because this is a common problem for all perodua models,(at least it is not that serious to me)..A few days later i sent my car for the first service and explained to them the problem. They could not detect anything, the mechanic actually suggested to me that 'the disc brake mungkin belum cukup masak', asking me to just leave it and try for another 2-3 months and see..
But the sound became more and more serious, louder and more frequent, i decided to send it to the service center last friday. The day before i sent my car i also observed that there is gearbox oil leaking! When i reached the service center, as usual they will not trust what you said, they first suggested that the sound could be coming from disc brake..loose part..explaining the theories etc etc...(one thing i dont understand, the sound would not appear when the engine is just started..again this had given them excuse to say this is not a gearbox prob with their theories...) So i was not satisfied, i drove the foreman, turned at least 6-8 big rounds..travelling at least 25km around the service center...till i was fed up and let the foreman drove..he started driving..within 2 minutes and the sound finally appeared!!! This time he couldnt deny, and w/o saying a word he drove back my car to the workshop for a checking...(i was so sure it's gearbox prob because i)there's nothing wrong with the wheel ii)when the humming sound appears, i tried to touch the gear lever and i noticed it sounds differently..it sounds like 2 objects abrading each other)
So i had to leave my car there...they dismantled the gearbox and openen it up. Finally they detected that a small piece of metal inside the gearbox has been damaged..i understand that this is called shift interlock (the 'H' shape metal in the picture)…my problem now is they are telling me that they will only repair the parts that are broken...
Is that all they can do? I am paying the price of a new car, of course I will be expecting every part from the car is new and working well..having gearbox problem 2 days after I received the car this is clearly a genuine manufacturing defect..it is their fault! Can they not have better quality control? I’m staying in Cheras and working in Nilai I have to travel 80km a day for work, this gearbox problem has already caused so much inconvenience to me. I’m paying for the car and I have to suffer? What if there are some other parts inside or outside the gearbox already damaged due to this problem and they could not detect?They have dismantled every part in the gearbox and just leave it on the bench in the workshop, what if dust or particles go in and damage other parts again later?I am really disappointed with them now, i really feel that they should at least replace a new unit of gearbox to my car!
But what can I do now? Help...

This is totally manufacturer defect. Which SC did u send ur car? And you should also address this major problem to P2 HQ. They should change the whole gear box not just repairing it la.

Thanks Jenggo..yeah im still trying to call the HQ now..tried call a few times before this to the HQ customer service already..they just said this is their procedure...asking me to liase with service center...they said that they will only replace a new gearbox if the repairing cost is equal to a new gearbox cost...but I still dont understand..im buying a new car now...how can a part in gearbox damage within 3 days less than 250km mileage...does that mean they can even put an old part in my new car during production, when there's no problem then nobody knows forever and when problem occurs only they change the old part?im so disappointed that they still hv a good image in the market..

Is that all they can do? Just repairing it? It still under warranty period...so they should change ur car gearbox to new one. If same prob still occur after that..then send again to SC? What the ...

Yea..this is unfair to us as a consumer..anyone of u has similar experience?Do you know where can i go to make a complaint please? thanks in advance...

that's right...forward this problem to right channel if they won't listen to consumer complain  let's the public know the real situation

Thanks...i just hope the repairing cost would be same as a new one...so that they would replace a new one for me..that also duno how long it will take...sigh
